My Top 9 favorite Christmas Movies

People are often surprised to find that behind the glasses, pearls and khakis, my husband and I have a pretty "special" sense of humor. Around here we really get into the Holiday Spirit with a marathon of our favorite movies beginning the day after Thanksgiving and culminating with the 24 hour A Christmas Story broadcast on Christmas Day. For our own amusement we decided a long time ago to classify Christmas movies as any movie with at least one Christmas scene which makes things a bit more interesting...

Here are H and my top 9 favorite movies and some of our favorite quotes (In no particular order):

The Holiday(Jude Law, Kate Winslet, Jack Black, Cameron Diaz)
"I'm a full-time dad. I'm a working parent. I'm a mother and a father. I'm a guy who reads parenting books and cookbooks before I go to sleep. I spend my weekends buying tutus. I'm learning to sew. I'm Mr. Napkin Head! - Graham

Coming to America(Eddie Murphy, Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones)
Ahem. "She's your Queen toooo be.. an object of affection! To be used at your discretion! To quench your royal fire!"- Oha

You've Got Mail (Meg Ryan, Tom Hanks, Dave Chappelle)
"If I only knew your name and address I would send you a bouquet of sharpened pencils." - Joe Fox

Trading Places (Eddie Murphy, Dan Aykroyd)
"You ain't Jacoozying nobody!" - Billy Ray Valentine

Love Actually (Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson)
[neither understands the other's language]
Jamie: [in English] It's my favorite time of day, driving you.
Aurelia: [in Portuguese] It's the saddest part of my day, leaving you.

National Lampoons Christmas Vacation (Chevy Chase)
"It's the holidays, we're all in misery." - Clark W. Griswald/Sparky

A Christmas Story
"Meatloaf, meatloaf, double beat loaf. I HATE MEATLOAF." - Ralphie

A Charlie Brown Christmas (the Peanuts Gang)
"And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, 'Fear not: for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.' And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men" - Linus Van Pelt

How The Grinch Stole Christmas (Mr. Grinch & The Whoville Gang)
"And what happened, then? Well, in Whoville they say - that the Grinch's small heart grew three sizes that day. And then - the true meaning of Christmas came through, and the Grinch found the strength of *ten* Grinches, plus two!" - Narrator

The Color Purple is an honorable mention. I didnt include it because although its a phenominal story, its a bit depressing. But of course hands down one of my favorite movies of all time...

What are your favorite Christmas movies? Did I leave any good one's off the list?

Well, this just happens to be one of my favorite topics.

I'm not really a movie person in general, but I looooove Christmas movies! Matt and I have been watching them almost every night for the past couple weeks. Right now, we're really into cheesy Lifetime specials (ha!), but there are some seriously good ones out there.

I really like The Family Stone. We watched that one last week. And according to your definition, one of my top two favorite movies of all time, Untamed Heart, is a Christmas movie! So that's good news. Even though the movie makes me cry my eyes out every single time.

Ha! Just picked up The Family Stone for 5 bucks at the Target! About to pop it in as soon as I can get this one in bed! I've never seen Untamed Heart, but I love a good cry so I'm looking it up asap:-)

My all time favorite has to be National Lampoons Christmas Vacation and the fact that they spoofed it on the Old Navy commercial makes me smile.

I also love Coming to America.

I love How The Grinch Stole Christmas, but my favorite is A Year Without Santa Claus. Home Alone is close behind.
