MAKE THIS [DIY] PRETTY AUTUMN WREATH

WHAT YOU NEED:

glue gun
glue sticks
paint
little cups
kraft coffee filters
grape vine wreath
scissiors
masking tape

WHAT TO DO:

1. Dye about 10 - 12  coffee filters.
You could very well just do all Kraft colored flowers and not dye them at all.. But I wanted it to feel like fall so I picked some fall colors (red, yellow, orange, pink) and then used brown to mute them a bit. Put paint in your cups, add a little brown and stir… then add a little water to loosen… Then you can shove about  4 (crumpled) filters in each cup. Wait about 20 minutes. Then I laid out plastic to open them up and let them dry (about 20 minutes). You'll be able to tell when they are dry.

2. Cut out Flowers.
In hindsight, this took me a lot longer than it should have.  Because I could not wait an wanted to cut and then immediately place it on the wreath. To move more swiftly go ahead and cut out all of your flowers first.  Here is the link to the awesome tutorial I used.

3. Arrange flowers on your wreath.
Once you've cut out all of your flowers, then you'll arrange them on your wreath by putting a generous amount of hot glue on the (tape) bottom of your flowers and holding them for a few seconds in place where you want on your wreath. I did the front of the wreath and then filled in the outside perimeter so that it looked nice and full.

4. Add embellishments.
I only have maple trees in my yard. So I put on a black ski mask and snuck into a neighbors yard and scoured for acorns. Just kidding, I texted her and she told me where the key was:-) I also found a few fall leaves and shoved them in and on the wreath with the hot glue.

5. Hang your wreath!

TA DA!! Cute Right?! I finished this up in time to hang it on the door before we took our family photos over the weekend. I suppose now its time to make a Holiday Wreath? Stay tuned:-)

FALL DECOR | DIY HALLOWEEN WREATH : SPOOKY BOOK PAGE

photo via my instagram

If you haven't already put up your fall wreath and were looking for something fun and festive (and easy) for halloween… I thought I'd share a DIY wreath tutorial for the wreath currently hanging on our front door. Looks pretty good right? Instead of spending $40 plus on one of the beautiful Etsy or store bought wreaths, I thought I'd make my own.. Well..this was actually a leftover wreath from a book party from a friend. I hot glued on a couple of spiders and repurposed it as one of my fall/halloween wreaths  WOOT.

However… this DIY Halloween wreath is pretty similar to this coffee filter wreath I've made before. You just need:

DIY Wreath Supplies:
grapevine wreath or styrofoam wreath from Michaels or Hobby Lobby or the like.
- hot glue gun and glue sticks
- old book that you don't mind ripping the pages out of. I would suggest picking up one at the Dollar Tree. Read a few pages and make sure its not some literary classic you'll regret demolishing later.
plastic spiders

DIY Wreath Directions:
1. Tear a page out of the book and roll it in a method of your choosing. I prefer making a fold to front, fold to back "s" shape.
2. After rolling the page, apply some glue at the end of the roll and glue it to the wreath. Work your way from the bottom of the wreath up to the top, finishing one layer before moving to the next.
3. To fill in any spaces, you’ll simply roll a page, apply glue to the ends, and just stick it in the wreath. The filler pages don’t necessarily need to touch the wreath; they can stick to the pages already glued to the wreath if need be. Use the filler pages to fill in holes and add some height.

Hoping to get over to the pumpkin patch and get the rest of the porch dressed for fall.

I hope you make this! Please let me know if you do it!

CLASSIC LIVING {SOME FALL DECOR INSPIRATION}

Please forgive me for going on and on about FALL. And its still a week or so away??!!! I know I have a problem.  It really is my FAVORITE. Its the prelude to all of the really fun holidays and gives me a reason to spruce up the place. The house just feels so warm and full during this time of the year. Unfortunately, I will probably carryon like this AT LEAST until Halloween:-(

I've been busy pinning and tucking ideas away. We will certainly be going to the pumpkin patch and I'm really looking forward to taking the kiddos to the County Fair this year. I should be off of my (failed attempts) sugar fast and be able to indulge in a candied apple and a funnel cake or two.

AHHH!! Cant wait!!

In the mean time here is Some Fall Inspiration:

My Fall Porch Pinspiration.
Some cool ideas for pumpkin carving.
Five ways to make your pumpkins live longer.
Some of my favorite recipes to whip up here, here, and here.
This delicious memory still sticks out in my mind oh and this one too.

Do you  have any plans or traditions during this time of year?

i need pumpkins!!

hubby went to the notre dame game in chicago without me this weekend (hooray!!) and after we scooped him from the airport we all headed over to a little harvested pumpkin patch we've been going to for the last few years at a local church.

there were no pumpkins. so now i'm scouring the web for a patch that doesnt require me to drive a gazillion miles (sorry, i'm an intown girl..) especially until this little one learns how to chill in his car seat for more than 30 minutes..

and incidentally I ended up moving along in search of inspiration to dress up the front porch for fall and for halloween (with the aforementioned non-existent pumpkins).

goals:
easy breezy
doesnt require a gaziillion pumpkins
spooky sophisticate (i made that up).

here is some of what i came up with:

Updated Post: Somehow the pics got moved/removed:
