Conversations with a Munchkin..

Munchkin (Playing with her toy horse in the tub): Lets get out of here!!! We're going to New York City!
Me: Oh you guys are going to New York City? Is that where he lives?
Munchkin: Yes!!
Me: Oh. Well, where do YOU live?
Munchkin: Target?!
Me: Oh.

such a big girl now...

so i'm getting a little nervous...

today after swim class, and story time at the book store, and my little helper tip toeing to help unload the groceries from the cart onto the conveyor belt (and a nice long nap) the little munchkin digs through the laundry basket and pulls out a pink slip-on summer dress and says, "i wear this one!".. I responded, "you want to wear this dress?" and she says, "okay!" (which she says instead of "yes").. so then I said.. "well dont you like the dress you are wearing - lets just keep this one on".. to which she responded, "no, i wear this one"... as she holds up the pink dress. she then promptly goes to pick out shoes to match.

and so it begins:-/

fun times in bunnieville...

in serious need of some blog therapy... i was looking back at some pics trapped in my cell phone and reminiscing on some fun times with my munchkin and my boo:-)

the little munchkin has a serious green thumb and wants to plant, smell and water the flowers every chance she gets.. we picked this one up at Lowe's and couldn't wait to get it into a pretty little pot...

so every time we pass a restaurant she shouts..rice!! beans!! i know.. my favorite too..
i cant believe she is big enough to chill out with crayons and a coloring book..

date night with some of our parent pals.. we got sitters and hung out here, here, and here.. so much fun!!! the 80's music rocked my world!! I was a dancing machine!!!!

 IT

 FINALLY

 CAME!!!

So hubby has officially moved on from obsessing over the DROID.. to cuddling with this new thing.. I am not allowed to touch it.. he holds it with a special napkin.. and he went shopping for a special pillow for it?  boys and their toys.. go figure..

i finally broke down...

so let me start by saying... i'm 3.5 pounds from my goal weight! however, unfortunately, today... it finally hit me.. i went back to work a little bit ago after being at home with my little munchkin for the last 20 months... dont get me wrong.. i was ready to join the ranks again.. and even more ready to trade those "air" shopping bags at j.crew in for some real ones.. but something happened this morning after scurrying around and making breakfast and lunch for my little lady and dropping her off at Children's Morning Out.. She was such a big girl.. she didnt fuss at all, gave me a little kiss good bye.. and super mommy was off for another hard day of work (outside of the house).. And I felt a little sad all day. I finally broke down in the front yard as we were all hanging around smelling the flowers and admiring what a wonderful job hubby has done with the landscaping... I didnt linger too long.. just a quick couple of tears.. and hubby sensing that there was NO way i was making dinner tonight whisked us off to one of our old favorites...

i had a shrimp po boy and fries and i polished off several biscoff cookies before writing this post. i wont be getting on the scale tomorrow:-(

a mom's gotta do, what a mom's gotta do..

i'll be vegging out in front of my favorite show and turning it in early tonight.. i havent seen it in over a week:-(
how will i fit it all in?!

times are a' changin'

big mistake...

since i've been cutting out crusty sweetness for the laste couple of weeks, i've had a leftover biscuit issue. well, the munchkin still likes her morning biscuits. and since my favorite trader joe's biscuits only come in the 8 pack...i've been storing the leftovers in the cookie jar. at any rate, upon the suggestion of my dear mommy, i decided to make some bread pudding for dessert to make use of the stash. bad idea.  and i even decided to let myself indulge a little since i've been doing so well with my little addiction. one slice as a little reward right? i just  ran in to get one more little sliver.. see.. this is how it starts:-(

at any rate, it turned out super yummy for my first try... i swear i could smell it from the street.  i over did it on the vanilla extract and added a little brown sugar on top just for good measure.

bunnie's easy breezy bread pudding

Ingredients
6 5 day old biscuits
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1/2 cup raisins (optional)
4 eggs, beaten
2 cups milk
3/4 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
3 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon brown sugar

1.Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

2.Break biscusits into small pieces into an 8 inch square baking pan. Drizzle melted butter or margarine over bread. Sprinkle with raisins.

3.In a medium mixing bowl, combine eggs, milk, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla. Beat until well mixed. Pour over bread, and lightly push down with a fork until bread is covered and soaking up the egg mixture. Sprinkle brown sugar on top.

4.Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the top springs back when lightly tapped.

 YUM!

any other ideas on what to with leftover bread? throw it in the trash is probably the best idea for all of our sakes:-/

high school skinny...

so the other night when i went out with my bestie to the fashion show i wore this cute little denim trench dress. i've had it for a little while. it's one of my favs from bill hallman (virginia highlands). at any rate, i am embarrassed to say that before the night was over, two of the buttons had popped off. i'm assuming because of the pressure being applied from behind (my belly?).  sadly. so in an effort to not have to buy a new wardrobe (out of necessity) or not to run out of thread (from adjusting all my buttons). i will be attempting to turn back the hands of time (or at least the scale). this is day two without sugar or anything with a crust. i'm starting to feel a little like pookie (a crack addict) from" new jack city" as i put the brownies with peeps melted on top (thanks alli) and the strawberry cream cheese croissants in the freezer (dont worry.. i will return to you my loves).

additionally, i would like not to be the chubby mommy at the pool with the little munchkin this summer.

any encouragement would be greatly appreciated.

oh as for the picture below, tonight i made turkey and white bean chili. it's from phase 1 of the south beach diet cook book (thanks allison). not quite a spring time meal i suppose, but  i figured it's a step in the right direction.

try this one out woodberry:-)

much better now..

last week  was the absolute worst. the little munchkin was quite sick all week. i've never felt so helpless. a true test of motherhood. emergency department and doctors visits. rising temperatures.. stuffy and restless nights. cranky days.. motrin and aspirators.. sesame street and oatmeal at two in the morning.. last week was a total blur. but one thing is very clear. being a mommy is the most important and the most fulfilling thing i will ever do. i pray every day for the strength and wisdom to do what's best. i hope one day to inspire her the way she does for me every day.

spring fever and other randomness...

so the hubby came home and pushed play on this one.. it's one of our favs! she's like diana ross and tina turner (most of the time:-) mashed into one supa sexy dancin' machine!! needless to say we got quite the workout before dinner.. there's no way you can listen to her without.. well you know (uh oh uh oh uh oh:-).

at any rate.. i'm SO ready for warm weather and spring time.

lately i've been day dreaming about...

looking for summer vacay spots?

herbs and fresh flowers in my kitchen window sill..

playing outside with my munchkin and her boo:-)

he's such a southern gentleman...

working up to fitting into something yummy like these from anthropologie:

resort chic huh? loves it!

so grown up.. deelish

or this little diddy from jcrew

pooped...

the title of this post was supposed to be, "SATURDAYS ROCK!!!"

i was super excited today to blog about how much i love saturday mornings around our little household... but now i'm feeling just a little pooped. the little munchkin had a meltdown before bedtime.. and sometimes that takes the wind out of my sails just a little bit..

now i'm ready for some warm frothy beverage and snuggling up on the couch.. i'll be asleep within the hour:-)

at any rate.. i was a busy little shutterbug today, so i'll give this post a shot.. it'll be good to get it all out...

i forgot to show you what we did with all of the broken crayons for daddy's Valentines Day present from the little munchkin...

so we usually hang out in our pj's for a bit watching a little sesame street, listening to some music (this morning it was d'angelo).. and catching up on some reading of something or another...

daddy with his morning news and coffee..
he has a bit of an attention problem.. hence the actual paper and the laptop..

my munchkin is quite an artist!
can you see the fluidity and depth in this original work or art?

hubby and i used to hang out at the big book store and rummage through the magazines for a couple of hours over coffee on saturdays even before the little munchkin came..
i promise we always put them back where we found them before leaving.
now the little munchkin shares our love for saturdays at the book store...
oh.. we read Green Eggs and Ham today.. in honor of Dr. Seuss's 106th birthday last week..

a couple of the munchkins little pals joined us for the festivities...

at any rate,

on the way home we picked up some potting soil (and a sledge hammer?) to get ready for some spring planting... i'm giving it another shot this year.. i'll be working on a container garden for the back deck.. i only got one tomato last year.. i'm new at this so i'll be channeling my inner martha...

a sledge hammer? something is really wrong with this man...

p.s.
i neglected to mention the loads of laundry, dishes, stinky diapers and continuous sweeping, and slaving over a hot stove.. it ruins the fantasy..

it's a wonderful life..

no really.. it is:-)

momtourage...

sometimes i put crappy pictures on my blog because..well i like them anyway.. so dont judge me okay..

last night one of my girls had a "free pass" from her hubby for a middle of the week mno (mommy night out). so she invited us out to this place tucked away in the old fourth ward... which i LOVED (who knew that i liked brussel sprouts?)...  food and wine were abundant and absolutely YUM!

we gabbed and laughed at ourselves for being the slightly neurotic mommies that we are as we are currently obsessing over vaccinations and preschools for our 15 - 19 month olds...

at any rate, these lovely ladies were so kind as to take me under thier wing at a play group many months ago (before the munchkin was even crawling) and we have been hanging tough ever since..

i consider them my momtourage...

p.s. i also met (again) another wonderful and wise mommy whom i hope to see again soon:-)
