THE BEST {FIRST BOOKS} EVER!

This is one of my fave pics EVER.

So I was doing a book store/story time hangout with little h and ran into a grandmother who was looking for some books for her new grand daughter. She said she really wanted to help set up her daughters nursery and asked my opinion. My mind went blank. I started rambling about black and white sensory mobiles and board books and blah, blah, blah.. and then after she left  I remembered what I should have shared. GAH! THEN, I remembered sitting in the rocker in the munchkins nursery and reading some very first and favorite stories. One's that both she (Andie) and I have memorized at this point. One's that should be in every little persons library to share with siblings and pass on to their little ones (if they last that long).

I'm sure this list is out there somewhere but here is my opinion on the

BEST FIRST BOOKS EVER.  MY TOP 9.

Margaret Wise Browns Good Night Moon
The perfect bed time story. "Good Night, Stars.. Good Night Air.. Good Night Noises Everywhere.."

Eric Carls: Brown Bear, Brown Bear and The Very Hungry Caterpillar   Super fun for learning animals and colors and what happens when a caterpillar eats too much. "Brown, Bear what do you see?"

The Little Pea. The Little Hoot. The Little Oink by Amy Krouse Rosenthal
Ah! Love these! Can you say a little reverse psychology? "When I go to bed, I'm going to let my kids go to bed as early as they want."

Gossie by Olivier Dunrea
Who doesnt love red galoshes? Gossie the gosling loses one of hers and finds them in a most peculiar place. "In the barn?"

The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats
Written in 1962, this one was the first book the munchkin read (memorized) herself. "After breakfast he put on his snow suit and ran outside." And so the adventure began...

Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney and Anita Jeram
"I love you all the way to the moon, and back."

Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. and John Archambault
The title says it all. Grooving and clapping and learning the alphabet. Super fun way to learn the alphabet and groove to the

Sandra Boynton Books
So many to choose from - Opposites, Colors, Bedtime.. take your pick.

Richard Scarry's What Do People Do All Day
Mr. Scarry published over 300 books with the most famous about Busytown. Populated by animals. "Mr. Alfalfa (the goat) grows all kinds of food. He keeps some for his family."

Many of these are classics and have been around for  40 - 50 YEARS. These they will love for quite a while.

What books would you add to this list? What was your favorite book as a child? What is/was your kiddo's fave?

xx,
Bunnie

OMG! You've taken me back to when I was little and in grade school. I can't tell you how much I loved these stories. I was able to find The Snowy Day, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, The Hungry Caterpillar, Good Night Moon along with countless others that I remember from my childhood at the thrift stores in my area. It's good to be able to share these stories with them.
