HELP WITH COLD REMEDIES | NATURAL VAPOR RUB

SO MANY COUGHS.. SO MUCH SNOT.. Yes, I said snot.. We are on our third round of sniffles around here, which means night time has been pretty rough these days. Thankfully, I've been able to escape the germs (so far, knock on wood). Tony has not been so lucky. I threw out the Vicks Vapor Rub after learning about how toxic it really is… Especially with the littles, I've been trying to be as natural and organic as possible when possible.

Avery woke up with a sheer sheet of mucus across his face and a cough like an adult horse:-( I've been doing a little research and this is my first stash of Essential Oils… Whippped up some of this Natural Vapor Rub and have been slathering it on the little guy. 

I  think its working.  

I even rubbed some on Tony last night while he was sleeping…. he like that very much. Alright.. keep it moving… nothing to see here.

To Make:

Put about 4 heaping tablespoons of coconut oil on a container. I'm a bit of a hoarder, so I had plenty of things I could use but these mini spice jars would work well. Add about 20 drops of Eucalyptus. 1 or 2 drops each of Rosemary and Spearmint.

I put it on after bath and then keep it on my nightstand when the kids are sick. That way I can grab it and head to the room of whoever is doing the coughing.

Nothing worse then when the littles are sick. At least he's been giving me the best snuggles (and the longest naps). 

Any other home remedies you can share would be greatly appreciated.

BACK TO SCHOOL | KID STYLE

So yes! The reason for this post!

Its that time of year again, and if your little has sprouted up over the summer like mine, you'll be needing to invest in new clothes for back to school. I'd like to add some classic little things that I think will carry her through the year. She'll be able to mix and match, add sweaters, tights, boots, as we get into the colder months. Here are some of my top picks/favorites…

Most of these things I'd like to add to my own wardrobe as well..

This chambray bib tunic from CrewCuts should last through the warmer months with shorts and capris, and we can add a cardigan when it starts to get a little cooler in the fall months. I'd even stick it under a pullover in the winter.

I know pink gets much play in a little girls wardrobe. So these pink suede mocks are right on trend for Andie who still can't get enough of the color. No socks in the summer early fall, in the winter add socks/tights WOOT.

All of munchkins leggings have turned into capris since her little summer growth spurt. These striped leggings will be the first - I like to stock pile these things to go under dresses turned shirts, and skirts.. 

I'm not sure where she got the notion, but the little has been making plans to add a horse (and small stables) to our "estate". This Gunner and Lux - Little Lux  horse necklace will have to do.. I think its adorable, and would love some of their "Grown-Up" pieces as well...

This little kitty ears liberty print headband is SO CUTE RIGHT? 

Cant go back to school without a new pencil case! I really like the stuff over at Peppercorn Kids.

Now should I stay true to size a get a little bigger? How to you buy clothes for your littles?

AVERY'S BIRTHDAY WISH LIST

Please forgive the interruption. Lost my rhythm a bit the last few weeks. Seems like just when you think you've got it all figured out, "up early, private time, get dressed, wake kids, make breakfast, pack lunch… boom, boom, WOOT WOOT! SUPER MOMMY!! Nope.

At any rate.. I've been working on a couple of parties over the last few weeks, one of which is LITTLE H's!!  Woo Hoo! Somebunny's turning two! Birthdays are like Christmas around here. We decorate and have lots of sweets and we try and come up with something special to give to celebrate the big day! A year older, wiser?

I'm so proud of my big boy. He's been amazing us lately by learning to do things on his own, recognizing the alphabet and counting and playing pretend. Not that there is anything wrong with a boy wearing a pink robe or singing the score to Disney's Frozen, or playing pretend with Barbie's, H and I think its time for a few of his own things (instead of borrowing his sisters).

I'm no toy minimalist. There is plenty to play with around here. We do our best to teach them to be grateful for what they have (although I'm not sure that's going very well). We hand down toys to the little one and donate things we've out grown or don't get much play. I instituted a chore chart (that I hope to share soon) last week that I'm hoping will help to teach the oldest about money and responsibility. I also regularly threaten to put all of the toys in a garbage bag and haul them out of here if they can't find something to play together instead of fighting over the toilet paper roll.

and there was my attempt to relieve myself of any guilt associated with buying more toys.

MAKING MEMORIES: PROJECT 52 - WEEK 4

I picked up my camera to sift through the photos to see what I had snapped during the week - empty. The iPhone - nada. What in the world happened?!

And then there was this - SNOW!

Just in the nick of time and and a pleasant and welcome surprise on yesterday. Mostly. This little winter storm brought Atlanta to its knees, literally.  I had just put h. down for a nap when it all started. I had joked with H on the phone that morning that I'd let munchkin sleep at the school before I woke him up from a nap to pick her up early. Sadly, some people were stranded and really did have to sleep at schools all night.  As for us, as soon as we hung up H saw flurries and decided to work the rest of the day from home and hurried over to pick the munchkin up from Kindergarten (and dinner and firewood) and made it home just before all hell broke loose in the city.

Although the kiddos were able to bundle up and take advantage of the snow day we had been hoping for. I was heartbroken and very prayerful for those who were stuck in gridlock traffic in the cold trying to get to their families.

Last night I was SUPER GRATEFUL FOR JUST THE NECESSITIES OF LIFE. Shelter, Heat, Warm Clothes, Food, Peace of Mind.  I was also encouraged and proud of all of the Atlanta residents that lent a helping hand and welcomed people into their homes and businesses to get out of the cold and have something warm to eat and drink for the night.

I've been calling this Project 52 "Making Memories". And that we did. This is one we are sure not to forget, for more reason than one.

MAKING MEMORIES: PROJECT 52: WEEK 3

Another week in the books!  What I need to know is HOW DO I GET INTO SOME OF THESE PICS??!! I was talking to a friend of mine the other day, and  she was saying that she has lots of pics from when she was growing up of her and her brother and dad, but not very many with or of her mom?

Um, because her mom was always behind the camera! I think I'm just going to have to become a celebrity so that at least I will have all of the pics from the paparrazi... How do I do that?

Oh. Well, will have to settle for either teaching munchkin how to take pics or handing the camera over to the husband.

Last week and the long weekend was pretty cool. Threw the ball around a bit with little h for the first time and took the training wheels off munchkin's bike (YAY 5!)!! She was not very happy about it. But she was brave and although she fell a gazillion times (and cried a couple), she kept getting back up and on. So proud of my courageous little girl!

Speaking of (Courage, Confidence and Character), I took the littles up to H's office so that munchkin could sell her Girl Scout Cookies!! Did I tell you she was a Girl Scout?!

So am I for that matter... Troop Leader - Woot Woot!! I know. Super Lame Cool Right?!

What have you been up to? Any advice on teaching this little squirt to ride her bike without training wheels? 

I think when the time comes we are going to start little h off with a balance bike?

FLASHBACK FRIDAY : WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DONT PUT THE VASELINE AWAY

I ALMOST DIED when I ran across these. I was digging through the crates to find some pics of myself when I was as fit and trim as I'd like to be and this came across my computer screen. I remember it like it was yesterday. That is one of my most favorite Tea Collection sweater dresses that was totally RUINED. No way I was getting all of the oil out of that thing.

At any rate. THE CUTEST LITTLE MUNCHKIN - SHE IS!! It made me a little weepy to see. I feel like I've been fussing at her a lot lately. About moving too slowly when I ask her to do something. Not listening to me the first time. I'm just trying so hard to raise her to be a smart, confident and responsible girl. But I have to remember to let her be a little girl. They wiggle and squirm. Don't have the greatest attention span. And are still watching and learning every little thing. And that takes time. It reminded me that she is my little girl and to be patient with her NOW. Just like I to be the day she got into the Vaseline.
